Location: Home based with travel to London, Rainham and Leeds

We are seeking a Major Contracts Furniture Specialist to provide support to the business across three locations in the UK (London, Rainham, Leeds). Reporting directly to the Sales Director, this role will have responsibility for specifying and pricing major furniture packages.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Take responsibility to secure best terms with major ancillary furniture manufacturers and price, and specify and create packages for major bids that are competitive and compelling
  • Work within the sales group to drive knowledge and profitability, with a focus on ancillary and collaboration furniture products

  • Maintain constant contact, in person with key manufacturers and suppliers, through showroom visits (factory visits where practical and strategically important especially where client/A&D can be involved)

  • Ensure all key manufacturer, new product releases are received early, and ensure IE receive exclusive terms

  • Work with manufacturers to ensure a constant flow of sample products are received and reviewed at the IE Studio London, Leeds and Rainham, where practical

  • Maintain excellent visual, technical, and commercial product data, on behalf of sales, bid and design teams

  • Work closely with IE Marketing and Design teams to ensure visibility of new products trends are shared and exchanged

  • Develop and maintain an electronic commercial database of key products and bids, to ensure accurate specification and optimise profitability opportunities

  • Attend client meetings, to promote IE’s expert capability to specify and supply relevant products
  • Organise open day events for clients/specifiers/Customer Service Team to view new products from all key manufacturers, and especially for new products being launched in the UK

  • Always drive best commercial value for IE, ensure approval is sought from Sales Director, Financial Director and Managing Director, for margin calculation, and final pricing negotiation with manufacturers/suppliers

  • Assist Customer Services to receive and upload standard/regularly accessed pricing into Hedberg, to constantly improve visibility of market leading options

  • Accountability for proactively securing major furniture contracts through creation of priced packages that meet commercial and design brief

  • Develop strategies with key manufacturers, to differentiate IE’s capability to source, specify and procure design lead collaborative and ancillary furniture packages
  • Price and specify major contracts and ensure best terms are applied and bids are competitive and timely

  • Consistently communicate and make visible - bids, wins and losses Accountable for, and measured on, team sales targets, win rates and results Develop a robust and simple to use commercial product database

  • Set up an excel, visual and detailed technical specification data files, and organise in a structured easy to use ‘Shared Folder’

  • Share insights, product launch and solutions with sales and design colleagues, and promote same externally to A&D key practices in London by visits and events, which may be in the evening or at weekends to receive specification opportunities

  • Position resources to become a partner with design firms on opportunities

  • Leverage Coalesse and Steelcase product specialists to enhance the knowledge of Steelcase brands and solutions within IE and externally with A&D

  • Actively participate in industry association to expand local network

  • Conduct business reviews with practice leaders to gain strategic alignment and partner to uncover new products and trends


  • Experience within specification driven sectors, in commercial furniture is preferable

  • Previous experience within the design/A&D (hence an existing personal network in London) will be highly valued

  • Ability to build long-term working relationships with manufacturers and OEMs, sales people, business leaders, architects, and interiors designers

  • Ability to work in project teams, in a distributed and complex sales environment
  • Familiar with corporate interior design processes and practices (design thinking, workplace consultancy, project management, workplace management)
  • Strong level of personal organisation, project and time management

  • Autonomy, commitment, curiosity, disciplined and adaptable, with team playing qualities will be highly valued


  • Experience of creating/managing own database of clients Good personal organisational/project/time management skills. Good verbal communication & presentation skills

  • Strong commercial awareness, Excellent mathematical skills

  • Computer literacy, including MS Office (intermediate level Excel) & Design (CAD/sketch up/In Design), virtual collaboration tools


    Degree level, ideally in interior Design, Furniture Design or Marketing (Desirable)
