A new Workcafé for 3500 workers to socialise, eat and meet.

Background

Ford’s Dunton Technical Centre is a major automotive research and development facility in Essex. The site at Dunton is going through a major transformation following Ford’s announcement that it is to consolidate its UK headquarters there.

Insightful Environments has been working with Ford for more than 20 years and we were delighted to be chosen again to help them specify, procure and install the furniture for this early phase in the Ford Dunton transformation project; the new Workcafé.

The project

Ford wanted to transform the previous canteen into a modern, vibrant, multi-use area where its 3,500 staff could hold meetings, socialize and eat. The new space, designed by interior architects Callison RTKL, included an Innovation Hub to meet and work in, a Tech Lounge where Employees can access IT services, bookable meeting rooms, a large servery area and seating options that offer a range of different postures, privacy settings and access to technology.

We worked very closely with Callison RTKL throughout the project to define the furniture specification and finishes before procuring and installing the furniture in November 2018.

Feedback from Ford on the final space was that the employees love it and it’s being really well-used by the Dunton workforce.
