Refurbishment and expansion to accommodate new acquisitions and agile working.

After a company acquisition, this global biopharmaceutical company wanted to expand and refurbish the space in their head office near to London to accommodate the new employees and changing work styles.

As their current building was already full, their innovative solution to avoid moving sites was to take space in the adjacent building and build a bridge link between the two.

As well as needing the extra space, they wanted to move to agile working with unassigned desks and a more varied range of work settings to give more choice and control to employees. They also wanted to integrate better AV into the work settings to help with the increase in mixed presence meetings due to flexible working and the Covid pandemic.

After conducting a furniture audit to assess the existing furniture assets, we proposed the reuse of some of their existing chairs and desks saving on both money and the CO2 equivalent of charging 4.6 million smartphones.

We collaborated closely with architects Mansfield Monk to decide what existing furniture could fit into the aesthetics of the new designs before finalising the furniture specification and finishes of the new furniture for project sign-off.

The first building installation was completed in  in the middle of the covid pandemic, adhering to strict Covid protocols. The second building installation was delayed due to building works which meant the remaining furniture was stored safely until the project could resume. The project was completed in November 2021.
