A stunning new home for HSBC in Sheffield

Background

HSBC had been established in Sheffield for over 40 years at Griffin House. In 2015 the business took the decision to take space in the redeveloped site of the old Grosvenor Hotel in Sheffield and relocate its staff to a new state of the art office. The foundations were laid in Jan 2018 and the building was handed over to the client on 31st May 2019.

The project

IE was approached to tender for the furniture procurement package in late 2017 in which we were awarded the majority of the furniture for the new 140,000 sqft building split over six floors. The package included desking, storage and loose furniture equating to more than 5,200 different furniture items from 44 different suppliers.

In the early stages, we worked hand in hand with Axis Architecture to help refine the furniture specification and come up with ideas and suggestions for innovative new products to add to the mix. Following a series of showroom visits, a visit to the Orgatec furniture fair in Cologne and a mockup of the final ideas for HSBC and its project team, we helped finalise the choices and procured the furniture on behalf of the client.

Careful planning and communication with the architects, main contractor & client teams during the whole process was paramount to the successful implementation of this project, and in making sure it was delivered in the most cost-effective and sustainable way.

Constant and effective communication ensured that all products were delivered and installed within the 10-week programme and that we could react to any site issues that arose, flexing our schedule to coordinate with the other on-site teams making sure there was no impact to the programme.

The results speak for themselves with HSBC now occupying a stunning new space that is being used by its employees to great effect.

Tim Hookham, Associate Director, Axis Architecture

"Having worked closely with IE in the past we knew that the project would benefit from having them on board.

"Our expectations were not only met but surpassed, their attention to detail, commitment and their enthusiasm was simply fantastic; everyone involved was motivated and quickly became part of the wider delivery team which was essential on a project of this scale with a challenging programme.

"The excellent quality and the positive feedback the project is receiving is testament to a great team which IE was very much part of."
